NBA 2017 All Star Game in New Orleans

The NBA announced that the 2017 All Star Game will be played in New Orleans. The game was moved from Charlotte, North Carolina due to the legislation that requires transgender patrons to use the restroom of the sex to which they were born in government buildings. The law also does not protect LGBTQ individuals from discrimination in the workplace and housing.

New Orleans by Day

New Orleans by Night

"New Orleans is a world-class destination for sports and entertainment and we are very appreciative that the city is once again hosting our All-Star festivities," NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said.
The date of the game is February 19th. The economic impact on the weekend should be approximately  70 to 100 million. New Orleans is well equipped to handle the game on relatively short notice They have over  50,0000 hotel rooms and have the benefit of having hosted the game before in 2014.
The  NBA has evolved into a diverse international game both on and off the court. They have shown the ability to be innovative and are looking for additional ways to market a popular product. This includes advertisements on jerseys, games played in other countries and the initiation of the conversation about sports betting. The sports betting subject will be featured at the G2E 2016 in Las Vegas and will include David Stern, Former NBA Commissioner and Geoff Freeman, CEO of the American Gaming Association.

Kevin Durant signs with the Warriors

Lebron James is happy this morning. He is not the number 1 player that NBA fans love to hate on today. Kevin Durant moves into that spot by signing with the Warriors for two years at 27 million per season. He has a clause to opt out after 1 year.

The Warriors are happy this morning. They just sign the best free agent available and improved a championship team coming off consecutive NBA Finals appearances. They just won 73 regular season games. Could that record be challenged? Daily Fantasy Sports just got more exciting.
Harrison Barnes and Andrew Bogut are not happy this morning. They will in all likelihood not be re-signed by the Warriors. The money is not there under the salary cap. They both may wind up in Dallas.

Russell Westbrook is not happy this morning. He no longer has his scoring partner that made for one of the best backcourts in the league. He is counting the days until he is a free agent.

The rest of us are somewhere in the middle. Love or Hate the deal. Like or Loathe Durant. We will watch intently. I just want to see the Warriors again when they come to Philly.

After Kevin Durant's announcement that he will join Golden State, the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook has moved the Warriors' odds to win next season's title from 3-2 to 4-5, making them an overwhelming favorite.
The Thunder's odds dropped from 8-1 to 30-1 at the Westgate.
The SuperBook also opened the Warriors' season win total for the 2016-17 campaign at 68.5.
Kevin Durant is Happy.  Click and See.

In case you missed it, @KeshisCuties and I discussed if Kevin Durant would fit with the Warriors.
This is in part due to Warriors not winning the title and Barnes lack of production in the close out games.  Follow us for more #HisandHers Talk this coming Friday at 8PM on Twitter.

Problems with NBA Free Agency

We should never knock another man's hustle. However, I think Jay Z would do a double take on the salaries that some of the current NBA free agents are getting. While the marquee players are deserving of large monetary compensation, players that are mid level are getting overpaid. The current collective bargaining agreement allows the rookies to be paid at a certain level based on how high they are drafted. This allows the veteran players to get more money until the rookies prove themselves. At the end of the rookie contract agreement they have the option to become a free agent.
The owners know have a body of work and will bid accordingly.
So why not do this with a veteran? As oppose to speculating on the worth of a player, pay them with a 70% guaranteed contract with 30% based on incentives. Performance would dictate earnings. Analytics of how the player's production affects the success of the team are available. Use the plus /minus ratio of how well the team does when the player is on the court. Did he win certain awards? Is the player durable? This would make the mid level player put in the work to train harder during the off season with conditioning and strength coaches.

Imagine yourself as an owner of a NBA team. Let's make it more real and now it's the business of your choice. You have a budget increase of 10,000 dollars. Would you spend the entire amount or part of it. If you spent all of it, would you over spend on any one area?  My point is that just because you have it does not mean you should waste it. Spending wisely is always the order of the day. Unless you are in the NBA.  Mary and Jay are up.

NBA Top Free Agents not named Kevin Durant

The wish list is open. Lebron James just won the championship in Cleveland so he won't leave again.
So besides the King and Kevin, who are the top free agents in 2016?

 Al Horford

I like Al Horford currently with the Atlanta Hawks. He is an unrestricted free agent. He is a solid front court player that can defend and score. Horford averaged 15 points and 7.3 rebounds. His downside is that he is 30 years old. Teams will hope that he is not about to decline in production.

 Hassan Whiteside

Hassan Whiteside is a great piece from the Miami Heat. He is coming off his best season and is a double double machine. He can impact the game defensively with shot blocking and rim protection.
Whiteside averaged 14 points and 11 rebounds. He is 27 years old. He is not that skilled offensively.

Nicholas Batum deserves consideration from the Charlotte Hornet. He is a swingman that averaged
14 points, 6 rebounds and 5.8 assists. Impressive numbers and only 27 years of age. Batum's stats have improved every year over the course of his career.
This is my top three.

You will notice they don't include Dwyane Wade, Dwight Howard, Rajon Rando or Mike Conley. The 1st two have peaked and would want top money. Rando stint in Dallas stills lingers with me. Conley is coming off a torn Achilles. I also did not mention DeMar DeRozan because he has expressed a strong desire to stay with the Raptors.

Harrison Barnes hurt himself with his NBA Finals performance. He is a good player but he fits the Warriors. I question if he could be the star of a team if he is the centerpiece. If Barnes played close to regular season form, he would be worth the risk. He averaged 11 points and 5 rebounds. He is durable and played in all 82 games this past regular season. He is only 24.

 Top Free Agent: Kevin Durant

In case you missed it, @KeshisCuties and I discussed if Kevin Durant would fit with the Warriors.
This is in part due to Warriors not winning the title and Barnes lack of production in the close out games.  Follow us for more #HisandHers Talk this coming Friday at 8PM on Twitter.

NBA Draft: Who is Number 1?

The Sixers are on the clock. There is speculation as to who they should take with the top pick in the draft. Brandon Ingram and Ben Simmons are the top two names that are floating around. Jamal Murray from Kentucky is getting some consideration as well.
This is one that the Sixers can not miss on. The fan base has endured 3 straight years of losing on purpose. Who ever they pick must make an impact on and off the court. Jahlil Okafor was a good pick last year but they need a player to market the team around. Some of Okafor off court actions don't translate well to Madison Avenue.

Ben Simmons has more upside. While he did not perform or shoot as well as his critics would like, he is a tremendous passer and ball handler. I see him as a Lamar Odom if and when he develops a outside shot. That may take a season. Simmons has not worked out for any team other than the Sixers and did not attend the combine.

Brandon Ingram is a shooter and a scorer. While he is very slight and will need to gain weight, he is what the Sixers need right now other than a point guard. He would score at least 15 to 20 every night as is. I see him being as a junior Kevin Durant. He also worked out for Sixers.

The pick: If I work for the Sixers I go for what I see. Simmons is good and was touted as the next Lebron out of high school. He did play for a poorly coach and underachieving LSU team. He did not make them better. He is ready physically.
Ingram played for Duke and lead his team to the NCAA tournament. He will provide an immediate need. If I am patient I go Simmons. But if I want now then I go Ingram.
Best Scenario: Sixers trade Okafor to Lakers for number 2 pick and take Ingram and Simmons. I start going to Wells Fargo Center again.

NBA Playoffs: Klay Thompson or James Harden

This is the 1st of the series of comparing players during the NBA playoffs. I decided to look at the match up between Klay Thompson and James Harden. This comes on the heels of the Warriors record setting 73-9 season and the Rockets rush to the 8th and final playoff spot. I selected this match up because these two will play each other in the 1st round. I realize they are in different price ranges in daily fantasy.

Analytics indicate that all players perform better when rested. Keep that in mind since there are 2 to 3 days between games to get the ultimate performance.
Harden has average 10 points more during the last 5 games of the regular season. His turnovers are down during this same period by 1 to 2 per game. His value per cost has increased .12 over the season and he is trending up.
Thompson is averaging 4 points less but getting 1 more rebound per outing during the last 5 games. His value per cost has decreased by .24 and he is trending down. Thompson's price is better.

Harden will give more productivity. He won't be playing beyond this series so grab him now!

NBA Playoffs 2015-2016

The NBA playoffs started this week. I will have a series of articles that will compare comparable
players based on daily fantasy prices and make a determination as to which one has the best value.
I will also participate in a contest that will run through the entire playoffs. The players that obtain
a double - double will get one point. If the player get a triple double, he gets two points. A quadruple double that does not include turnovers would get 4 points. The player that gets the most points wins.
I want the fans of DraftKing and FanDuel to follow me and see how well I do. Tell me who you would pick as your player. I will update this blog post through the duration of the playoffs.

Which of these guys would you pick?

Follow me and see which one, if any, I select. Leave a comment if you like someone not pictured.

NBA Daily Fantasy:Russell Westbrook vs. Kevin Durant

I am caught up in the #SSAC16 and #DecadeofData frenzy. I am sharing my own analytics comparing Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant. I compared their stats over the entire season
to the last 5 games played. I used a scoring system that is associated with #FanDuel.  Assists and Rebounds have more statistical value than points. Turnovers are negative so they decrease the player's score.

I chose Westbrook and Durant because they have similar value in the Daily Fantasy Sport world.
I assigned both of them a cash value of $10,900.

Who would you select? ________

My answer is below.

Durant is outscoring Westbrook by 8 points over the past 5 games. Westbrook has almost twice as many assists during the same period. Durant total fantasy value over the past 5 games is 50.68 while Westbrook value is 47.70. Both of them have alarmingly high turnover ratios. My analytics show an overall upward trend for Durant.

Westbrook is ahead of Durant statistically for the season with a fantasy value projection base on price of 4.61 to 4.43. I would stay with Westbrook at the same price but if the trend continues upward over the next 2 games then switch to Durant. Value and timing are extremely important elements to winning.

The Thunder play the Spurs tonight on NBA on ABC.  See the complete schedule . I am staying with Westbrook since he will be matched against Tony Parker (offensively) more than Kawhi Leonard. More favorable for Westbrook.

This Week in Gaming Review

The 3rd week of 2016 featured outstanding news from Atlantic City.  Revel is reportedly going to reopen as a waterpark and a casino. The casino will be a smaller version of the previous model. Since they closed in September 2014,  the amount of rooms available at the shore decreased by 1400. That does not include the rooms lost by the closing of Showboat, Atlantic Club and Trump Plaza. While the occupancy rate has risen, the demand for a room will drive prices up as well. Not good for the consumer. The reopening will alleviate a part of that. No timetable was given.

The conversation about Online Gaming in Pennsylvania was revisited by State Rep John Payne. Payne is the current chair of the Gaming Oversight Committee. He predicted that some form of gaming outside of the brick and mortar casinos would be approved by July. This will double the amount of people that are playing currently. Good news for 888 and Caesars Interactive.
A hearing on Tuesday was held to talk about the possibility of sports betting. This would be in concert with a resolution introduced late last year urging the U.S. Congress to repeal a ban on sports betting. Pennsylvania is being proactive with the hearing of the proposal by New Jersey that request that wagering on games be allowed by the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals. This hearing is scheduled for February 17. ESPN Chalk provided coverage of this hearing and cited the opinions the Commissioners of the NBA and MLB.

Finally, New York has New York will have another crack at online poker. Legislation that would regulate online poker sites in the Empire State was re-introduced this week. The measure was considered last year but didn’t gain any traction in Albany. The bill is from Assemblyman Gary Pretlow, who is pushing legislation along with Sen. Bonacic, who has yet to re-introduce his proposal. Both are at the helm of gaming and racing committees.  The amount of money projected in the 1st year of operation was estimated at 120 million. That is the same amount that Pennsylvania projected for the online gaming market 12 months after launch.
This news regarding Poker is cited from Cardplayer.com.

Last week, I went 2-2 with my NFL selections. My best bet was Seattle + 8.5 in a teaser. Today my best play is the over 47.5 in the Panthers and Cardinals game. Enjoy the games.

What makes Sports Betting so popular?

Sports Betting is popular for 3 universal reasons. I will list and expand on each.

The global appeal of Football, Basketball and Soccer. These three sports have fans from all over the world. The games are played on multiple continents. They have international stars in each of the three. Fans can connect with the players via social media. They develop an affinity for the players and the brand. As a result they are compelled to bet on them when they are watching on television or via live stream.

The Internet- Information can be obtain right at your fingertips. You can get injury reports, points spreads and historical data of how opponents have fared against each other. There was a time when you would have to be in a sports book in Las Vegas to get this type of information. Your second choice would be from your favorite pregame show or weekly periodical. Anyone remember when having Sports Illustrated was a must?  Now you can get it on your PC or phone.

Credit Card and Debit Accounts - Since most of our transactions can be done with the same phone and PC that gives you the info to determine your bet, the accessibility of your credit or debit card will finalize the process. If you wanted to bet a parlay in Delaware, you would have to physically go to the casino or the establishment takes bets. If you have a mobile account that is active in a jurisdiction that accepts bets and you are in that state, you could phone your action in. There are countless off shore accounts that will accept your action but they are illegal. This does not diminish the amount of people that are using them to satisfy the sports betting itch.

The countdown to NFL Kickoff is 1day away.  How are you scratching your itch?

NBA Finals Preview

This is the match up we wanted. Once the Spurs were eliminated, Cleveland against Golden State was the most appealing match up. Lebron James vs. Steph Curry. The best player in the game against the baby face assassin. The marquee players in the Finals.

Let"s examine the teams and compare.

Guards - Curry and Klay Thompson vs. Irving and Shumpert .  Since Thompson has a concussion that brings the edge down due to his uncertainty. Curry is League MVP so Warriors have a distinct upside. Irving comes in questionable as well since he has leg and ankle problems. Advantage to Warriors

Center- Bogot vs. Mozgov. While Bogut is efficient as a passer and can score when utilize, Mozgov is showing superior dominance on the glass and blocking shots. Edge to Cavaliers.

Forwards- Barnes and Green vs. James and Tristan Thompson. Barnes and Green help when the defense double teams the penetration of Curry and are capable of pushing the ball on the fast break. James is playing at optimum level right now. He is averaging close to a triple double every game. Thompson is a beast on the boards and as a shot blocker.  Advantage to Cavaliers.

Bench - J.R. Smith, Dellavedova, Jones, Miller Marion and Perkins  vs. Iguodala, Lee ,Barbosa, Ezeli  and Livingston  . Scoring and energy from Smith, Jones and Dellavedova  is matched against defense and all round play from Iguodala. and Livingston.  Iguodala does not shoot fouls well and that will be critical. Lee is not used consistently so his contribution may be limited by coach's decision. Golden State is deeper. Cavs have more experience. I expect impact from both benches. Slight edge to Cavs.

Coaching- Kerr vs. Blatt. Kerr has taken a good team and made it better. They won 15 more regular season games then they did a year ago. They won 51 last year. They play great defense and take you out of what you want to do. Blatt got the Cavs to buy in at the mid way point of the season. They are 46-11 since then. Does give the impression that he acquiesces to Lebron in key moments. Kerr comes across as the more polished of the two. Advantage to Warriors.

Why Warriors will win?  Curry and Thompson are dominant from outside. Home court record is awesome. Team is capable of going on extensive offensive runs while shutting the opponent down defensively.

Why Cavaliers will win?  Lebron James is one of the few people playing that can make his team win. He impacts the game in every category. When the game enters the fourth quarter he has the ability to contain Curry. When they double he will find open shooters. More like Magic Johnson than given credit.

The Pick - Odds makers have Warriors as the favorite. Defense wins championships. Offense sells tickets. The Cavaliers are allowing just 92.6 points per game this postseason while the Warriors are allowing 96.3.  If I can get Lebron and Kyrie at a good price, I can't resist.  Cleveland in 6.

NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers odds about to take a turn.

The past 24 hours have not been good for the Cavs. First, Kevin Love injured his shoulder and is expected to be out 2-3 weeks. The injury did look premeditated on the part of Kelly Olynyk, the player from Boston.  See for yourself.
Then in the 2nd half , J.R. Smith hits Celtic small forward Jae Crowder with a backhand, closed fist that knocked him down and out of the game. Crowder also suffered a knee injury on the same play. This looks like a suspension to me of at least 2 games.  How many games does it look like to you?

If the Bulls take care of business against the Bucks Thursday, these teams will meet at the end of the week. Cleveland will be shorthanded two men in the rotation. Even with Irving and James that would be a difficult task against Chicago and Derrick Rose.

The addition of Gasol along with the emergence of Jimmy Butler make Chicago a force even if Rose is less than 100%.  The defense is solidified by Noah and will attempt to surround Lebron.

I am sure the odds of Cleveland winning the title and the eastern conference have shifted. They were a 11-5 and 5-11 during the season to win the championship and conference finals. I predict they go to 13-5 and 5- 8. Bulls will shift slightly from 12-1 and 5-1 respectively for the same plays to 10-1 and 4-1.   The price of picking Lebron or Kyrie Irving in a daily fantasy league should increase due to more anticipated minutes and shots. Let's see if I'm right.

Gaming Interview with ESPN's David Purdum: Sports Betting

A traditional newspaper journalist, David Purdum has covered the gaming industry, with a focus on sports betting, for the past seven years. He has followed New Jersey’s court battles with the sports leagues closely and covered the case for ESPN.com, The Linemakers on Sporting News, Sports Business Journal and other outlets. He has appeared on ESPN’s Outside the Lines and was a panelist on “US and European Methods to Combat Corruption and Match-Fixing in Sports” at the Sports Lawyers Association’s annual conference in 2013. He currently covers the industry for ESPN.com’s new sports betting site, ESPN Chalk.
In addition to his gaming coverage, Purdum also covers professional, college and high school sports for the Sports Xchange and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

I follow David on Twitter and look forward to his updates. He is the leading gaming industry report
                                                                     for ESPN.

David is on top of the pulse of the online betting conversation as shown by his participation in I Gaming North America conference. He is part of the panel discussion on the progress report on the legalization of Sports Betting. I was able to get David to share some of his views prior to his session.

1). The NBA and MLB commissioners are receptive to the prospect of Sports Betting. What is the stance of the other major professional leagues?
The NFL and NCAA, at least publicly, have not softened their opposition to sports betting legalization. I believe--and NBA commissioner Adam Silver affirmed it--all the leagues are taking a close look at the benefits of legalization. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has acknowledged the need to take another look at sports betting, but has not been nearly as publicly supportive of legalization as either Silver or new baseball commissioner Rob Manfred.
Notice the two leagues that have come on board with legalization have new commissioners in Silver and Manfred. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s contract is not up until 2019.

2). What would the buy in be for each league to sanction Sports Betting?
There are several models that have been considered. In Australia, for example, the leagues receive a commission off the amount of money won by the books on the specific sports. In that model, the leagues, indeed, would have a stake in who covers the spread. Obviously, that would not help the public’s perception of the games’ integrity. But it should. In Australia, if gambling-related corruption is discovered, the leagues are subject to losing their cut of the profits. It’s on the leagues to protect their sport’s integrity.
Two New Jersey politicians offered the NBA a .25 percent cut off the top of every wager. The problem with this model is that the margins on bookmaking are very slim. Giving another party a cut off the top will put a strain on the books to offer competitive odds and remain profitable. Australia experimented with giving a cut to the leagues off every wager and found that the books simply quit taking big wagers and pushed parlays and bad odds on customers.
If part of the goal of legalization is to bring the billions be wagered in the offshore market to a regulated environment, the legal books must be able to offer competitive odds.
Mark Cuban also mentioned charging the bookmakers licensing fees to use their data. In January, Silver said the NBA was not ready to announce which model they’re leaning toward.

3). Fantasy Sports Betting is growing at an alarming rate. Would a Sport Betting initiative slow that?
Not at all. Fantasy sports is embraced by the sports leagues, who helped get a carve-out in the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, keeping fantasy sports legal. The legalization of traditional sports betting won’t have any direct impact on fantasy sports, in my opinion.

4). The UK and other European nations currently have sport wagering. Are they similar to what we have in Nevada?
Yes. In fact, several of the UK’s biggest sports books have entered or are trying to enter the Nevada market. William Hill was the first. It received its Nevada gaming license three years ago. Ladbrokes and Irish sports book giant Paddy Power have expressed interest.

5).Do you feel that a national sport betting referendum would impact Las Vegas? They currently have the monopoly on the market.
I do, but I think it will be mild. However, Vegas bookmakers and casino execs have been adamant that expansion would only benefit them. Some of the books have mentioned the willingness to expand outside of Nevada. So while it might not necessarily impact some of the casino companies, I can’t help but think some people who travel to Vegas for big events, like the Super Bowl, would consider other locations where sports betting is legal.

6). The consensus indicates that Sports Betting is coming, just a matter of when. If you were a betting man, what time frame would you give?
The over/under has been set at 4.5 years until we see expanded legalized sport betting in the U.S. To me, it’s all on the NFL. I’ve really learned just how powerful the league is. When it softens its stance, I believe we will see rapid movement toward legalization. I don’t think it is anywhere close to that point yet, though. Remember, Goodell’s contract is up in 2019.

I would suggest you follow David on Twitter at @DavidPurdum. He is informative and connected to the beat of sports and gaming. His panel discussion at  I Gaming North America starts at 3:05PM -PDT. This event is being held at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas on 4/16/15. State Senator Lesniak is also a participant on this round table. The Marriage of Sports and Gaming

In the past week, two news items piqued my interest regarding the legalization of a national sports betting platform. One was a statement issued by Adam Silver, Commissioner of the +NBA. He was recently being interviewed in +ESPN, The Magazine and stated that he was engaged in discussions with other owners about the possibility of allowing wagering on NFL,MLB and NHL games. Here is a quote from that interview.

Silver says, "I have talked to the commissioners in the other leagues about it, and I leave it to them to make any public statements they want to make on it. I will say that certainly all of them ... have assigned people in their organizations to study the issue intensively."

This is not the 1st time Silver has mention his interest in expanding the reach of the game into casinos and betting establishments. This is a sign that he is definitely serious about what his agenda to transition sports to fit the new wave of fans. A national platform will be easier to monitor and regulate. Traditional gambling sites with brand names could introduce a product  that is socially acceptable but largely illegal. It will also provide a revenue that is currently not being tax to help fund programs that we are in need of.

The second statement was issued by Senator John McCain, from the State of Arizona. Sen. McCain (R-Ariz.), speaking on "Capital Games" with ESPN's Andy Katz and ABC's Rick Klein, said Congress needs to hold hearings to discuss legalizing sports betting. The theme of the show is to offer the perspectives of policy makers on issues that relate to the world of sports

"We need a debate in Congress," McCain said. "We need to have a talk with the American people, and we need to probably have hearings in Congress on the whole issue so we can build consensus." giving his opinion on sports betting. Licensed sports betting, particularly on devices showing games, is the mechanism that will eventually allow all professional sports to profit.

The timing of a Congress that is controlled by the party of a former presidential candidate gives the possibility of this getting past the discussion stage more of a chance than getting an interview from Marshawn Lynch. The probability of something being done this year is significantly lower than the likelihood of +50 Shades of Grey being the number 1 box office movie. However, several states have already introduced bills that will allow sport betting. They include New Jersey, New York, Indiana, South Carolina and soon, Minnesota.

I have two suggestions that give the proposed marriage of sports and gaming consummation. I would like someone from the gaming world with a national profile to embrace the position of sports and gaming as being feasible. The state of Nevada has a blueprint that can be emulated nationwide. I would encourage the commissioners of the leagues to have a summit sometime within the next 6 weeks to give this concept traction. The NFL and MLB are not in season so the time is ideal for them. Include the MLS too. A tremendous large and diverse fan base with international proportions. Have the summit in  Las Vegas, Atlantic City or New York City. The logistics being the association with gaming and the location of the league offices.  I 'll revisit the status of this in a future post.

Happy Valentine's Day

Top Five News and Views of 2015

Happy New Year!!! Have a great 2015

If Chris Rock can do it, so can I.

These are my top five press releases of 2015 from the major players of their respective industries. Each of these are revelations of what to expect in gaming, media and entertainment.

In its December magazine, Forbes has profiled Amaya Gaming Group CEO David Baazov, detailing his bold 2014 acquisition of privately held poker operator Rational Group (owners of PokerStars and Full Tilt). The magazine labels the young CEO of Amaya Gaming Group, as the new ‘king of online gambling’ having pulled off an incredible industry coup. The igaming and sports betting industry will further await the highly anticipated launch of Amaya Gaming’s sports betting and casino product, as the firm looks to broaden its online gambling product inventory.

Comcast now offers an Internet Plus package with everything that constitutes "the basics" for $49.99 a month for 12 months. It also offers free access to Comcast's Xfinity TV Go app, which allows for streaming and viewing on a TV set, tablet or other mobile device.
AT&T's U-verse, the fastest growing TV provider in the country, is embracing the idea of moving to a universal watching experience.
It offers a TV Everywhere app, which allows customers to take AT&T content with them on mobile devices, tablets and computers.
"We kind of see it as complementary," said John Blinkiewicz, assistant vice president of U-verse TV marketing. "As we continue to grow customers, we see them using our TV everywhere as a complement to their TV service."
Boosting Internet speeds and expanding networks has become a huge focus for AT&T and Comcast, which could help both the cable providers and the non-traditional TV streaming services.
"As TV has grown up, so have the devices. We need to serve customers where they want, when they want," said Blinkiewicz.

Verizon Communications Inc. has approached AOL Inc. (AOL) about a potential acquisition or joint venture with the Internet company to expand its mobile-video offerings, people with knowledge of the matter said.
Verizon hasn’t made a formal proposal to AOL, and no agreement is imminent, said the people, who asked not to be named because the discussions are private.
Merging AOL’s programmatic advertising technology -- the automated buying and selling of ads online -- with mobile video content can help Verizon catch up with AT&T Inc. (T) as wireless providers enhance their offerings. AT&T last year struck a $48.5 billion deal to acquire satellite TV provider DirecTV.
A joint venture would also focus on advertising technology, one of the people said. Verizon is seeking expertise in three areas: online content, mobile video and advertising, one person said. The company also has held talks with several of AOL’s peers about how to bolster those businesses.
The programmatic ads platform could be paired with a future online-video product, two people said.
With a takeover, Verizon would also gain AOL’s 2.3 million paying members and Internet brands including the Huffington Post, TechCrunch and Engadget. It’s unclear if Verizon is interested in those media properties, which draw more than 200 million unique visitors a month, the fourth-most in the U.S., behind Google Inc., Yahoo Inc. and Facebook Inc., according to November data from researcher ComScore Inc

Google is a powerhouse, but it's a powerhouse in transition.
In 2014, Google's search engine -- the largest in the world -- continued to dominate the market. In the US, the company has 67 percent of the search market on desktop computers. Globally, it's a $50 billion business in revenue annually.
Google has been making big investments in YouTube, its premier online video platform. The company has fought to keep its top creative talent on the service, especially as rivals like Facebook and startups like Victorious aim to crowd YouTube's turf.
There's good reason for that investment. YouTube gets more than a billion unique visitors every month and streams about three months' worth of video to viewers every minute. eMarketer predicted that video ad revenues from YouTube in the US would hit $1.13 billion by the end of 2014.

Summit in Philly
Forbes has chosen Philadelphia as the permanent home of its 30 Under 30 Summit - a gathering of young entrepreneurs that organizers hope will become the nation's most elite networking event for the next generation of business and political leaders.
The announcement Monday was timed to coincide with the release of the magazine's annual "Forbes 30 Under 30" list, a who's who tally of 600 entrepreneurs and leaders under age 30 that seeks to be as buzzy as its annual billionaires' list.
Forbes' 30 Under 30 Summit made a four-day debut here in October, and Forbes officials toyed with the idea of moving the fledgling confab to a different city each year. The decision to stay in Philadelphia was made after several months of negotiations between Mayor Nutter and top Forbes officials.
