Daily Fantasy Football Tips (4)

This week's Fantasy Football Tip requires that all the fans of Daily Fantasy research Week 1 statistics. Look at the amount of time a receiver was targeted by his quarterback. If the number is higher than 35 percent that means at least 1/3 of the looks are passes to that receiver. Carson Wentz targeted Jordan Matthews over 38% of his throws last week. I would start that receiver if he had a favorable match up against a weak or injured secondary.

Carson Wentz

Jordan Matthews

The only exception to this is if you have a stud wide receiver like a Julio Jones or Dez Bryant. If this is your guy in a fantasy league that you have with your friends or coworkers, then he has to be your guy every week barring injury.

Julio Jones

Dez Bryant

Daily Fantasy Football Tips (3)

When selecting your team for Fantasy Football, make sure to look at the schedule of the games. You don't want to draft players that have the same bye weeks. That means you would have players on your roster that would not be available to you. You would be forced to pick someone up or play one of the guys  you consider a back up. Do a mock draft prior to selecting. Have a list of  the guys you want at each position and select base on the value of the player.
Antonio Brown

Ezekiel Elliott

If I am on the clock and I have a choice between Antonio Brown and Ezexiel Elliott, I am going Brown. While Elliott is projected to do well, the value associated with Brown exceeds the potential.

This Week in Gaming Review

The New York State Gaming Commission on Monday issued temporary permits to five fantasy sports operators, including industry giants DraftKings and FanDuel.  Governor Cuomo signed legislation to legalize Fantasy Sports Betting earlier this month. This is great for New York Football and Basketball fans.

Yahoo, Fantasy Draft and Draft also received temporary permits Monday. The companies were allowed to begin offering paid contests immediately. This is the 1st step toward sports betting. It will not be the last.

Glenn Straub. owner of the Revel Casino, now claims the property will have a soft Oct. 1 opening and be fully functioning by the end of December. The site is awaiting zoning and inspection by Atlantic City's L&I Department. There appears to be uncertainty about this.  Stay tuned for updates.

Governor Christie stated he is in favor of gaming expansion outside of Atlantic City. If this happens, casinos will be in North Jersey. This will not only affect AC but will hit some of  the Pennsylvania Casinos as well.  Mount Airy and Sands come to mind.  The proximity to the New Jersey border and the New York crowd are the respective reasons for both of these operators.

Daily Fantasy Football Tips (1)

For the next three weeks we will provide periodic tips for Daily Fantasy Football fans. This will benefit the fans of DraftKings, FanDuel and Yahoo. If you are selecting a team, look to stacking your team for the optimum results. Stacking is pairing the quarterback with a receiver or running back that play on the same team. This is a smart play because they are dependent on each other for production.
Pairing Matt Ryan with Julio Jones is an example.

This Week in Gaming Review

New York has made a major move with authorizing the regulation of Daily Fantasy Sports. New York has 13% of the market of Fantasy Sports Players. This is great news for FanDuel and DraftKings. There was talk of these two merging. They may not have to if other states decide to follow New York.

The news was not as good for New Jersey and the quest for sports betting. The 3rd Circuit Court decided in a vote of 10-2 that the federal ban should be upheld. The next move is taking the challenge to the United States Supreme Court. There is no timetable or guarantee that the top judicial body would hear the case. An act of Congress may be a viable alternative. The American Gaming Association is in favor of having the sports betting ban repealed. Fantasy is clearing the way.

MGM is in Atlantic City doing auditions for dealers. They are mandated to hire a large percentage of their staff from the residents in the DC area where the casino is located. They have a sizable labor pool to choose from. Atlantic City is a great place to start.

Interview with Chris Sheffield: Penn National Gaming

Mr. Chris Sheffield has been Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Interactive Gaming at Penn National Gaming Inc. since January 2015. Mr. Sheffield is responsible for setting the Company’s strategy as it prepares for the launch of online gaming initiatives across its portfolio at Penn National Gaming.

1). What is your role at Penn National Gaming?  What did you do prior to this position?

"My role is Managing Director / Senior Vice President i-Gaming at Penn which is a new role created this year .  Previously I was managing Director of digital for Betfred in the UK who are a very large betting and gaming business which generates over $ 15 Bn in revenue per year from retail and online operations.  Prior to Betfred, I had an entrepreneurial career and most notably developed Million-2-1 into the largest mobile gambling business in the UK which was eventually acquired by International game Technology (IGT)."

2). Tell the readers the things in the I Gaming platform  that you feel could be implemented here?

"The UK is the World’s most advanced online gambling marketplace and every form of gaming and gambling online for real money is legal and regulated.  This creates a huge amount of tax revenue for Government,  tens of thousands of jobs,  consumer protection for players and drives innovation as operators race to deliver the next great product.  Sports betting is also legal via all channels,  and nowadays in the UK mobile and betting “In Play” as the action happens is the most popular betting activity with $ billions wagered every weekend on soccer, horse racing and other sports.  I see no reason why a similar model could not be implemented across North America and consumers here given the chance to wager legally rather than off-shore with all of the protection and additional tax revenues a regulated model would generate."

3). What would work best in the perfect I Gaming regulatory format?  A federal structure or the current state by state initiative.

"From an operator’s standpoint,  of course a federal position would work best as would be one size fits all and a lot easier to support from a single infrastructure.  However,  given land based gaming businesses are regulated state by state, this is more likely the way things will happen with each state being able to determine its own path and regulations."

4). In Europe, what games are the most popular in the I Gaming environment?  What are the demographics of the players?

"In the UK, sports betting is huge but it is quite a low margin and very competitive business.  The most commercial aspect of i-gaming is casino games (slots, roulette, blackjack e.t.c.),  live dealer casino games,  virtual sports, bingo and poker which is currently in decline.  The customer demographic depends very much on the brand and product and typically a sport-book operator would appeal more to the younger male whilst gaming / bingo focused would appeal more to the older female type audience.  However,  mobile gaming now has overtaken the PC and other devices and this is skewing to a younger more tech savvy customer who is able to play games or wager from anywhere."

5). Online Gaming does have fears associated with it. The two that immediately come to mind are cannibalization of brick and mortar casinos and an up surge of compulsive gambling. Are these concerns valid?

"As can be seen from Europe,  there appears to be very little cannibalization from bricks and mortar to IGaming and the two channels can be used to help customers become more loyal to a single brand and increase lifetime value and wallet share.  This is also being seen in New jersey with operators such as Golden Nugget being able to report a very positive impact on land based customers  visitation and spend since the advent of IGaming in the State."

"I would also point to Europe regards compulsive gambling and again there is no evidence that there is a link between increased gambling problems and new technology.  At the end of the day,  technology allows the implementation of better controls to protect the customer than the land based environment."

6). Fantasy Sports Betting is the talk of the US. What would it take to bring Online Gaming to this level?

"The biggest challenge that igaming faces is that it is not currently legal in most states whilst fantasy sports for the time being is allowedin most states  across the country.  iGaming needs to prove volume and scale in New Jersey which is improving month by month and issues such as banking (high decline rates for transaction) need to be resolved. Once the model is proven I am sure other States will introduce bills to legalize igaming as a way to raise tax revenue, protect the consumer and bring illegal offshore business back to the US."

Kevin Durant signs with the Warriors

Lebron James is happy this morning. He is not the number 1 player that NBA fans love to hate on today. Kevin Durant moves into that spot by signing with the Warriors for two years at 27 million per season. He has a clause to opt out after 1 year.

The Warriors are happy this morning. They just sign the best free agent available and improved a championship team coming off consecutive NBA Finals appearances. They just won 73 regular season games. Could that record be challenged? Daily Fantasy Sports just got more exciting.
Harrison Barnes and Andrew Bogut are not happy this morning. They will in all likelihood not be re-signed by the Warriors. The money is not there under the salary cap. They both may wind up in Dallas.

Russell Westbrook is not happy this morning. He no longer has his scoring partner that made for one of the best backcourts in the league. He is counting the days until he is a free agent.

The rest of us are somewhere in the middle. Love or Hate the deal. Like or Loathe Durant. We will watch intently. I just want to see the Warriors again when they come to Philly.

After Kevin Durant's announcement that he will join Golden State, the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook has moved the Warriors' odds to win next season's title from 3-2 to 4-5, making them an overwhelming favorite.
The Thunder's odds dropped from 8-1 to 30-1 at the Westgate.
The SuperBook also opened the Warriors' season win total for the 2016-17 campaign at 68.5.
Kevin Durant is Happy.  Click and See.

In case you missed it, @KeshisCuties and I discussed if Kevin Durant would fit with the Warriors.
This is in part due to Warriors not winning the title and Barnes lack of production in the close out games.  Follow us for more #HisandHers Talk this coming Friday at 8PM on Twitter.

This Week in Gaming Review

This week, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed a preliminary bill to expand gaming.
This expansion will include IGaming, Daily Fantasy Sports and slot machines at airports.

This is what online gaming enthusiast have been waiting for.Pennsylvania need the revenue and the public demand for gambling online is increasing every year. While the projected revenue varies, it will be at least 9 to 12 months before implementation. The next step is the bill moving to the Pennsylvania State Senate. While nothing is guaranteed, I like the chances of this passing.

New York made headlines with a reversal. They authorize Daily Fantasy Sports just months after issuing a ban on FanDuel and DraftKings. The following is an except from Sports Illustrated.
"Indeed, this was the reason for the cease-and-desist orders in 2015. Now, however, amended laws will seek to bring clarity to the matter. The full bill can be found here. Crucially, it alters the state’s gambling laws to include “regulated interactive fantasy sports contests with an entry fee.”

Smart Responsible Gaming

This is the change I have been alluding to. Over the past weeks, I have mentioned that I was going to add a new feature to the website. I totally changed it. That change is Smart Responsible Gaming.
We will promote an intellectual view that will focus on a younger and new gamer. I am excited and passionate about this endeavor. Our posts will provide information about fantasy sports, sports betting and skill base games. There will still be updates about entertainment from the casino world. We will still provide interviews from the top executives, insiders and policy makers periodically.
What we were doing before this change was giving 70% of our attention toward the traditional casino player. A transition had to be made to stay relevant.
So we have invested in a new look for the website. smartresponsiblegamng.com
Gone are the static references to major sports leagues and gaming capitals. Our post will engage you with fresh content that will include this week in gaming review and  the current sporting event that is trending on social media.
You will get an insider perception of what going on. This will come from people that actually work in the professions they are sharing their opinions about. Imagine watching NFL Insiders and you'll visualize what we are doing. We will be data driven with analytics that will support assessments.
The biggest addition is the mobile app that accompanies this transition. Smart Responsible Gaming is available on Android and I phone versions. It is currently in the App Store - Official Site and can be downloaded for free. It will allow you to look at gaming as a social medium that requires planning to minimize risk.
It includes concepts that are novel such as nutritional advice. The app provide access to real time engagement.  The app will also increase your awareness so you'll make sound decisions. Decisions that will improve your gaming experience and allow for a balance quality of life.   If you are interested in online gaming or the aforementioned information targets, you can review it here.
Thanks to all that read any prior post over the past 3 years and are coming with us.
Welcome all the new audience members for joining in.
Enjoy the journey!

This Week in Gaming Review

FanDuel and DraftKings have suspended all college sports contests involving NCAA players from their offering of Fantasy Sports effective at the end of this Final Four Weekend. This makes Fantasy Sports acceptable to some legislators that are currently on the fence. They are presently 30 states that are considering some form of regulations (pro or con) about daily fantasy. While the debate over skill
or gambling continues, most states see this as a tax generating revenue base. It is part of what the public considers fun. This is simply giving the people what they want.

                                                                  Final Four Odds
The North Carolina vs. Syracuse analysis is here.

The Tar Heels opened as a 4-5 favorites at the Westgate SuperBook, followed by Villanova at 11-4, Oklahoma at 4-1 and long-shot Syracuse at 10-1.  The match up between Nova and the Sooners is here.
Villanova -1.5 o/u 149.5
North Carolina  -9.5 o/u 149.5
Both of the above are opening numbers.

As of this post, the Sooners are now 7-2 and Carolina is 5-7.
The Orangemen are 12-1 and the Cats are 16-5. When you compare the line movement, the sports books are generating interest in both of the former Big East rivals. Interest does not always lead to
action.

Villanova was attracting the bulk of the early bets against Oklahoma at sportsbook operator CG Technology. According to CG Technology vice president of race and sports Jason Simbal, 10 times more money had been wagered on the favored Wildcats compared to the Sooners as of Sunday night.

NBA Daily Fantasy:Russell Westbrook vs. Kevin Durant

I am caught up in the #SSAC16 and #DecadeofData frenzy. I am sharing my own analytics comparing Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant. I compared their stats over the entire season
to the last 5 games played. I used a scoring system that is associated with #FanDuel.  Assists and Rebounds have more statistical value than points. Turnovers are negative so they decrease the player's score.

I chose Westbrook and Durant because they have similar value in the Daily Fantasy Sport world.
I assigned both of them a cash value of $10,900.

Who would you select? ________

My answer is below.

Durant is outscoring Westbrook by 8 points over the past 5 games. Westbrook has almost twice as many assists during the same period. Durant total fantasy value over the past 5 games is 50.68 while Westbrook value is 47.70. Both of them have alarmingly high turnover ratios. My analytics show an overall upward trend for Durant.

Westbrook is ahead of Durant statistically for the season with a fantasy value projection base on price of 4.61 to 4.43. I would stay with Westbrook at the same price but if the trend continues upward over the next 2 games then switch to Durant. Value and timing are extremely important elements to winning.

The Thunder play the Spurs tonight on NBA on ABC.  See the complete schedule . I am staying with Westbrook since he will be matched against Tony Parker (offensively) more than Kawhi Leonard. More favorable for Westbrook.

This week in Gaming Review

Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Director of the Office of Compulsive and Problem Gambling, Elizabeth Lanza, has received the “2016 Person of the Year Award” from the Council on Compulsive Gambling of Pennsylvania.  Director Lanza received the award last week during the organization’s “2016 CCGPA Statewide Conference East” in Trevose. This is outstanding news and well timed. This is National Problem Gaming Awareness Month. I suggest we take a moment to revisit some of the initiatives the AGA recommends regarding responsible gaming.

New Jersey is strongly exploring the concept of skill based games with regulations that will fast
track new product to the casino floor. I expect more new about this at the IGNA and the ECGC. The I Gaming North America will be held 4/5/16 thru 4/7/16. The East Coast Gaming Congress will take place 5/25/16 thru 5/26/16. I plan to follow attendees and provide commentary during both events.

New Jersey is also looking at Daily Fantasy Sports as a revenue generator. State Senator Jim Whelan proposed a bill that would regulate daily leagues only and tax them at the current casino rate of 9.5%.

More news from PokerStars this week. In a press release, PokerStars parent company Amaya stated:
“Amaya Inc. (NASDAQ: AYA; TSX: AYA) today announced that it expects to initially launch its PokerStars brand in New Jersey on Monday, March 21, 2016.  The launch quickly follows the September 2015 authorization by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (the “DGE”) to operate the PokerStars and Full Tilt brands in the State. Amaya currently expects to conduct an interim testing period with the DGE and a beta period for a limited player base beginning in mid-March.”

Fantasy Sports is not Sports Betting: The Myth that came True

Nevada regulators handed down a ruling that Fantasy Sport sites can not operate in the Silver State
without a license. NBC News reported this. FanDuel and DraftKings can no longer take action in the state where gambling on almost anything is legal. This comes one week after the employee of   DraftKings  hit on the FanDuel site for $350,000. They both have institute a ban that prohibits employees from playing. Does the ban prevent the employees from sharing information with friends? Hmm!

FanDuel vs. DraftKings

                                                                  The Myth
The Trojan Horse is a tale from the Trojan War about the subterfuge that the Greeks used to enter the city of Troy and win the war. After a fruitless 10-year siege, the Greeks constructed a huge wooden horse  and hid a select force of men inside. The Greeks pretended to sail away, and the Trojans pulled the horse into their city as a victory trophy. That night the Greek force crept out of the horse and opened the gates for the rest of the Greek army, which had sailed back under cover of night. The Greeks entered and destroyed the city of Troy, decisively ending the war. A "Trojan Horse" has come to mean any trick or stratagem that causes a target to invite a foe into a securely protected bastion or place. This passage was provided courtesy of Wikipedia.

So how did the myth come true?

Daily Sports Fantasy is the millennial Trojan Horse. The American operators pretend that it not gambling under the auspice of the 2006 Internet Gambling Enforcement  Act. 9 years later, the public is swayed by conventional wisdom  that this is the substitute for legal action on a game because it  is  technically not gambling. The selection of players from multiple teams does not constitute a "real" contest. The states are the protected place. We are allowing an unregulated form of wagering.

Fantasy Sports = Sports Betting?  Hmmm!

The advertising dollars spent to entice players are outrageous. It does seem to be working. The incident that happen with the employee did not lower the interest in wagering on either site. It did alert the government to look at regulating Daily Fantasy Sports. I see partnerships that extend beyond licensing agreements and commercials. Casinos and Racetracks could connect with a site like Yahoo and DraftPot to offer Fantasy Sports. They have the facilities and are regulated. The sites have the software. The states could sell licenses for a fee. Everybody Wins. Hmmmm!

Is Wagering on Fantasy Sports Gambling?

I saw this question about 10 days ago on LinkedIn. I did not read the response because I knew that I would weigh in on this. I like to maintain my objectivity when I write. I decided that I would compare betting on a football team like the Eagles to wagering on a fantasy team of my choosing.

When I bet the Eagles I take in consideration the line or points spread, homefield and weather. I
also chart the recent history between the Eagles and their opponent. If I can find more pluses to take the Birds then I put my money on Philly. If I can't ,then I don't wager on the game. If all roads and factors point to the opponent, I considered going the other way.

Some fans feel this is a form of blasphemy. No way can you bet against your team. A fan and a bettor are two different people. Fans are ride or die. Bettors are live to die another day. Read this paragraph again and you'll get it!
Now when I wagering on a fantasy team, I get to pick this imaginary lineup that would never play together against someone else's dream team of the week or day. I look at homefield, opponent and weather. I considered past individual performances. I also look at any significant injury. The injury variable is incorporated into the spread or line.
So the factors that go into picking a NFL team to wager on are the same as what you look for in betting on a fantasy team. So why is Fantasy a skill proposition and picking a team (Eagles) a gamble? The answer is not Sam Bradford.
The only difference is the point spread. My NFL team must win by more than the number designated or I will lose. My fantasy team just has to win. In a day fantasy league like DraftKingsFanDuel or Yahoo, my opponent and I may have some of the same players on our team.
Wanna Play??

Picking that secondary guy to go with your elite players will make the difference between winning and losing. There is something to be said for finding value at a price. Finding that value is a skill that is not based on luck. Skill ties more into percentages and analytics.

                                        Webster's definition of gambling is
: to play a game in which you can win or lose money or possessions : to bet money or other valuable things
: to risk losing (an amount of money) in a game or bet
: to risk losing (something valuable or important) in order to do or achieve something.

Wagering on Fantasy Sports sounds like gambling to me. And about 33 million other people.

Fantasy Sports Explosion

I have been researching Fantasy Sports in preparation for the upcoming NFL season. I am not a baseball fan these days because my team has the worse record in either league. Our coach just resigned without being asked to. Who does that?
So NFL it is. I plan to review each position with a top 5. I looking for input. Each week starting July 13, 8:00pm EST, I will share the view thru my social media outlets.  Join me and my co host Nkeshi Free on Twitter for #GTLivechat.  #GTLivechat is a conversation that is conducted via Twitter with followers around the world. What makes us unique is that we make picks and then get a poll of which players are the popular choices. We will select the positions individually and give the consensus of what you think.  Fun. Easy and Free.   For those who have a gaming interest, look at Fan Duel, DraftKings and Yahoo after you connect with us.
Then in August, we will look at the divisional and conference breakdown of the AFC and NFC. Since we have followers from different regions, we will balance what they see and compare it to the national media outlets like ESPN and Sports Illustrated. This will prepare you for the upcoming season.

                                                         Now my question is ....

CASHING???
OR
TRASHING???
